The WoolSafe Marks

The WoolSafe Mark is a certification mark registered and owned by The WoolSafe Organisation and is issued by them to chemical manufacturers and suppliers to be used on, or in relation to, carpet and furnishing fabric maintenance and protection products which meet defined standards of performance and safety.

Only those companies that are registered Licensees are entitled to use the Mark on duly tested, approved and registered carpet maintenance products.

The ownership of the WoolSafe Mark, the authority to use it, and the manner in which it is used, is governed by the WoolSafe Agreement, which is signed by all companies using the Mark.

There are currently two versions of the WoolSafe Mark: the 'standard' Mark, which is usually represented in black, but can be represented in other colours with the exception of green, and the 'green' WoolSafe Mark, which applies to approved products with special environmental properties

The Mark is available in a number of languages, including English, German, French, Dutch/Flemish and Danish.

License to use the WoolSafe Mark

The license to use the WoolSafe Mark is available worldwide to manufacturers of approved carpet cleaning chemicals, spot removers, soil and stain resist treatments and other products used to maintain, protect or enhance the performance of carpets and rugs.

Companies who manufacture or supply WoolSafe-approved products and wish to use the WoolSafe Mark on approved products are required to become Licensees of the WoolSafe programme by the payment of an annual fee to The WoolSafe Organisation.

The WoolSafe Licence

Any company wishing to sell a tested and approved formulation with the WoolSafe Mark under their own brand name must become a WoolSafe Licensee.

Those companies who wish to sell (a) tested and approved formulation(s) with the WoolSafe Mark in one country (usually, but not always, the country in which they are based) should become a Single-Country Licensee (SCL).

The SCL covers the supplier/manufacturer of the WoolSafe Approved product(s) as well as any distributors or agents in the country to which the licence applies.

Those companies who wish to sell (a) tested and approved formulation(s) with the WoolSafe Mark in more than one country must become a Multi-Country Licensee (MCL).

The MCL covers the supplier/manufacturer of the WoolSafe Approved product(s) as well as any distributors or agents in the countries to which the licence applies.

Both the SCL and MCL depend on a company's annual sales revenue.

Approved Product Registration and Listing

An annual fee is payable by the Licensee for the registration and listing in directories of all the Brand Names of products carrying the WoolSafe Mark.

No fees are payable relating to the number of times the Mark is used.

Companies who market WoolSafe-approved products and who use the WoolSafe Mark are required to sign the WoolSafe Agreement, which covers the ownership, appearance and use of the Mark.

Use of the WoolSafe Marks for advertising or promotional purposes

The WoolSafe Mark, a registered certification mark, and the WoolSafe name are owned by The WoolSafe Organisation and used by them and by suppliers of carpet and upholstery maintenance products to advertise and/or promote WoolSafed products.
